Wayne County Commissioner Honors Mrs. Randa Abdallah with Teacher of the Month Award In a heartwarming ceremony held at Hillcrest Elementary School, Wayne County Commissioner David Knezek presented the coveted Teacher of the Month Award to Mrs. Randa Abdallah. The hallways were filled with anticipation and applause, with several esteemed guests in attendance, including Dr. Youssef Mosallam, Crestwood School District Superintendent; Dr. Linda Lazar, Associate Superintendent; Nassrine Saad, Principal of Hillcrest Elementary; and Dearborn Heights City Council President and brother of the award recipient, Mr. Dave Abdallah. Commissioner Knezek shared, “The tireless efforts of educators like Mrs. Abdallah play a pivotal role in sculpting the future of our young learners. It’s an honor to do my part in recognizing and applauding the sacrifices and dedication of our teachers - all of whom go above and beyond every single day.” A proud 2004 graduate of the Crestwood School District, and having pursued a teaching career before entering government, Mr. Knezek spoke from the heart, emphasizing the importance of supporting educators and the field of education. Echoing these sentiments, Dr. Youssef Mosallam conveyed his elation. “Our district thrives because of the phenomenal staff who make it what it is. Celebrating the achievements of individuals like Mrs. Abdallah isn’t just an act of recognition; it’s a testament to our district’s strength and individuality.” Dr. Mosallam’s words resonated with everyone present, highlighting the collective pride of the Crestwood community. Mrs. Abdallah’s journey in the Crestwood District is nothing short of inspiring. Beginning as a lunch monitor and then transitioning to a para-professional role, it was Mrs. Andria O’Hara, now the Associate Superintendent, who spotted her potential and encouraged her to pursue a teaching certificate. Today, Mrs. Abdallah is an instrumental figure in the district, serving as the Instructional Math Coach at both Hillcrest Elementary and Riverside Middle School. The day was marked by heartfelt speeches, rounds of applause, and a strong sense of community. It underscored the importance of recognizing and celebrating those who dedicate their lives to the noble profession of teaching. From all of us at Crestwood School District, a hearty congratulations to Mrs. Randa Abdallah. Your dedication, hard work, and passion for teaching is an inspiration to us all.

Huntington Bank and The Arab American News Invest in Crestwood High School’s Future Leaders On the morning of October 10, 2023, Crestwood High School in Dearborn Heights, MI, welcomed esteemed guests Gary Torgow, Chairman of Huntington National Bank, and Osama Siblani, Editor and Publisher of The Arab American News. Their visit marks the collaborative effort between their respective institutions to fund the F.L.I.P. Scholarship, a testament to their commitment to investing in the futures of young leaders. Crestwood District Superintendent, Dr. Youssef Mosallam, and the school’s Principal, Roni Abdulhadi, greeted the visitors with heartfelt enthusiasm. Together with Crestwood’s shining seniors, LaChelle Moreland-Jones, Isabella Jomaa, and Manar Hariri, they shared the heart and soul of what it means to be a Crestwood Charger. “As a Crestwood Charger, it’s more than just attending a school; it’s about being a part of a family that nurtures leadership and success,” said Dr. Mosallam. “Our commitment to student success is evident, and with the support from F.L.I.P. Scholarship, we’re ensuring a brighter future for our students in higher education.” When inquired by Mr. Torgow about his ascent to his esteemed role, Principal Abdulhadi, with genuine humility, responded, “My unwavering commitment to student success and the leadership opportunities provided by Dr. Mosallam led me here. Yet, it’s imperative to underscore the relentless efforts of our dedicated counseling team, especially Mrs. Shadia Berry. Their consistent guidance has paved the way for our students to secure spots in the nation’s most illustrious institutions.” The morning progressed with an insightful tour of the new Athletic Complex, led by Jeff Hachigan. The complex, according to Dr. Mosallam, “Symbolizes the unity of our district. By investing in facilities like this, we not only enhance our students’ experiences but also strengthen our community.” Osama Siblani expressed his admiration for the accomplishments of the Crestwood team, especially after witnessing the splendor of the new complex. “It’s truly inspiring to see how much Crestwood has achieved. This complex is a testament to that.” The visit concluded with a special treat for the guests—a welcoming message displayed on the school’s state-of-the-art sports scoreboard screen. This collaboration between Huntington Bank, The Arab American News, and Crestwood High School signifies a promising step forward in supporting the next generation of leaders. As Crestwood High continues to flourish, there’s no doubt that its students will be at the forefront of change, embodying the spirit of a true Crestwood Charger.

Recap: Crestwood Community Education Foundation Inaugural Gala Last evening marked a momentous occasion as the Crestwood community gathered for the inaugural Crestwood Community Education Foundation Gala. A night infused with the spirit of unity, celebration, and achievement. From the melodic tunes of the Crestwood Jazz Band that set the night in motion, to the awe-inspiring displays from our Crestwood Robotics Club, NHS, and Science Club, the evening was a testament to our district’s vibrant talent. It was truly heartwarming to see the rooms brimming with alumni, alongside representatives from all schools of the Crestwood district. Dr. Mosallam captured the evening’s essence with his reflective words, saying, “Every brick in our foundation is a testament to collective ambition. When the Crestwood community unites, we don’t just make progress; we redefine possibilities.” We were all left spellbound by the Drama Club’s stirring performance of their summer musical, Matilda. Tarik Turfee, a proud Crestwood alumnus, successful attorney, and the Crestwood High School Varsity Basketball Coach, graced the evening as our emcee. But it was Hamid Souidean, another Crestwood alumnus turned successful attorney, who truly stole the show with his moving keynote speech. Drawing from his own journey through the district, he recounted how Crestwood shaped him into the person he is today. The evening would not have been complete without the mesmerizing captures by Sahar Mashhour of SM Photography. Their snaps are sure to immortalize this unforgettable night. Walaa Hamad, the President of the Crestwood Community Education Foundation, delivered a poignant speech, highlighting the essence and mission of the foundation. A heartfelt call for unity and the importance of investing in our future – our students. To the entire Crestwood community – educators, students, alumni, and supporters – last evening was a beautiful testament to our shared journey and commitment. As we step forward, let’s continue to champion and uplift our district’s potential. Because, as Walaa Hamad rightfully noted, “we are not just building a foundation; we are crafting a legacy.”
